Gun design uses RFID to identify owner

TriggerSmart startup in Ireland has patented a system that uses an RFID reader embedded in the handle of a firearm to verify the identity of its owner. Patrick O'Shaughnessy came up with the idea after reading about a police officer who had been shot with his own gun. With the help from researchers at Georgia Tech Ireland, O'Shaughnessy and his partner Robert McNamara were able to design a prototype.

A passive, without batteries, RFID tag is embedded in either a bracelet or a ring that is...

RFID NANOTECH SPYCHIPS

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.

Most RFID tags contain at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio-frequency (RF) signal, and...

RFID Hand-Held Inventory System

Bulk identification of products and short scanning time are two of the prime advantages of using RFID tags, instead of bar code labels, An RFID tag can either be active or passive. An RFID tagged product, may either be passed through a reader or scanner. The tag reading process, begins with the RFID antenna, sending a scanning signal which activates the transponder in a tag to respond. An RFID reader consists of a scanning antenna that are attached to computers, which can receive signals from...

Using 2x12mm glass Mifare S50 NFC tags with NFC readers

This video explains how to get a reliable read with a 2x12mm glass NFC compatible RFID tag using a reader with a "flat plane" antenna loop. The antenna coil in the tag is arranged as a cylinder while the antenna coils of most readers are flatted out on a plane. Getting the small tags to energize and interact with these types of readers requires some trial and error, but it is possible to learn how to get a consistent read almost every time you present the tag to the reader.

The 2x12mm Mifare...
