How Near Field Communication Works ...

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi seem similar to near field communication on the surface. All three allow wireless communication and data exchange between digital devices like smartphones. Yet near field communication utilizes electromagnetic radio fields while technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi focus on radio transmissions instead.

Near field communication, or NFC for short, is an offshoot of radio-frequency identification (RFID) with the exception that NFC is designed for use by devices within close proximity to each other. Three forms of NFC technology exist: Type A, Type B, and FeliCa. All are similar...

History of Near Field Communication

Near field communication (NFC) traces its roots back to radio-frequency identification (RFID). Indeed, NFC is actually a subset of RFID with a shorter communication range for security purposes. In 2004, Nokia, Sony, and Philips came together to form the NFC Forum. This group is dedicated to promoting the security, ease of use, and popularity of near field...

Near Field Communication Technology Standards ...

When developing near field communication devices and new technology, NFC standards must be met. Standards exist to ensure all forms of near field communication technology can interact with other NFC compatible devices and will work with newer devices in the future. Two major specifications exist for NFC technology: ISO/IEC 14443 and ISO/IEC 18000-3. The first defines the ID cards used to store...

NFC Signaling Technologies - NearFieldCommunication.org

NFC-A corresponds with RFID Type A communication. In Type A communication, Miller encoding, also known as delay encoding, is used with amplitude modulation at 100 percent. Using this set-up, a signal sent between devices must change from 0 to 100 percent to register the difference between sending a "1" and a "0." Data is transmitted at 106 Kbps when using Type A communication.

NFC-B

Similar to NFC-A, NFC-B...
